Description:
The theme of this trip is simply enjoying nature and relaxing. Around the village of Oisterwijk, there are some beautiful nature areas and there is choice in where to stay. At Hike in Holland we chose to design a relaxing trip where you stay in a very hospitable, beautiful hotel, where the food is excellent. Around this hotel we designed 3 hikes, each very different in character. We chose to make the walks not too long, so you have plenty of time unwind and rest. Each of the walks has a shorter version as well, if you wish to take it even more easy.
Unique:
The nature areas around Oisterwijk are not only beautiful, but they have a lot of variation as well. To the east there is the more open area of the Kampina, with heath, sands and fens. On the west side of the hotel there are the woods of Oisterwijk, where you’ll pass many a small forest lake, while walking through various kinds of woods. Then to the south there are the farmlands, with their quiet country lanes and paths and the typical village of Moergestel, which is the goal of your third walk. There are not a lot of places in the Netherlands where you have so much variation in such a small area. Your comfortable hotel with it’s delicious meals make the experience a complete one.

Day 1 Arrival in Oisterwijk
Today you’ll arrive in your hotel in the middle of nature. After arriving, you can relax in and around the hotel, or do a small walk in the woods across the hotel. Have a drink in the lounge or in the garden of the hotel and enjoy your first dinner.

Dag 2 Across the Kampina (14 or 11 km)
Today a wonderful walking tour through the nature area Kampina awaits you. This area has been a protected area since 1917, and that makes it one of the older protected areas in the Netherlands. It is a beautiful area with lots of heath, open areas, sands and fens, surrounded by woods. You may meet some types of grazers in the area, but in the fens you can especially find many types of waterfowl, spoonbills, and in the right season (fall) even cranes. There also many types of dragonflies in the area. The area looks like a large part pf the country must have looked like before it was developed for agriculture, production forests.

Dag 3 Through the Woods and fens of Oisterwijk (15 or 11 km)
On the second walk you’ll meander mainly through the nature area Oisterwijkse woods and fens. This is an old nature area as well, that was barely saved from the plans of a project developer in the early 20th century. The name tells you exactly what the area stands for, so it’s woods and fens. It’s mixed woods, so there’s beech, spruce, birch and many more. The fens are there in all sizes are mostly very picturesque. Halfway through the walk, you’ll exit the area to the west, to arrive in another nature area, the Oude Hondsberg, which is a bit more open with some fields and a bit of agriculture. On the route you’ll pass a few small chapels as well.
The countryside around Moergestel
Dag 4 Through woods and fields to Moergestel (15 of 12 km)
Today you’ll exit the nature areas into the countryside. However, the walk starts along the meandering brook, the Rosep. This leads you out of the woods. Then, along country lanes you’ll head into the direction of the village of Moergestel and the nature area Moergestelse Broek, a small wetlands, where you can spot some migrating birds if you’re lucky. You’ll even walk on a dike here for a short while. You’ll take a break in the convivial village Moergestel, famous for its shoes and the local dialect. After that it’s back in the direction of the woods around Oisterwijk. We’ll meet a different part of the Rosep, and then walk through the woods back to the hotel.

Prices extension:
The hotel is very suitable for a longer stay. You can walk many more days in the environment. If you have arrived with a car, the nature of the Loonse en Drunense duinen (a nature area with huge sand dunes) is close by. It is also a great area to rent bicycles for a day, or visit the nearby town of Tilburg. Also the Safari park of Beekse Bergen is close by and worth a visit.
